Smooth Sailing works with you to create detailed documentation.  If you have a loss, we want you to have thorough records.  We take the time and care to document your property as though it were our own.  We are experienced and fully equipped to efficiently conduct your inventory.

What we do

The steps taken before, during, & after a comprehensive home inventory are as follows:

When you contact us, we will set up an initial appointment to determine your inventory needs and provide you with a quotation for our services.

The Consultation Day

Home Visit: 

We request a visit to your home or business before we perform your inventory to go over some pre-inventory questions to better determine your needs and to give you a more accurate price quote.  Evening and weekend appointments are available for your convenience. 

 Walk-through: 

During this home visit, we will request a walk-through of your home.  We will ask that you point out items of interest, such as collectibles, items in storage areas, etc... This will provide an opportunity to get to know us and give you a comfort level with having us in your home. The walk-through will also provide us with a better feel for your home contents, the level of detail required and the estimated time required.

Review & Deposit:

Following the walk-through, we'll review our service options, confidentiality agreement and payment terms.  Our policy is to collect a 50% deposit on the day of your home inventory with the balance due upon delivery of the finished product.

The Inventory Day

Interior Inventory:

We begin the recording process by going room to room, photographing and recording the details of your belongings (serial numbers, descriptions, etc…). You may be involved as much or as little as you like, although, we do encourage client participation to ensure maximum accuracy. You can provide the item values as we go or you can do this following the inventory. We do require you to be present during the documentation of jewelry and any other small, high-priced items you may want us to document. 

Outdoors:

Once the interior home inventory has been completed, we will photograph the exterior of your home including landscaping and any outbuildings. At this point, if you have any outbuildings, we will complete an inventory of any agreed upon property in these locations.  In cases where there is an extensive amount of property stored in your garage and/or shed, these may need to be inventoried separately at a pre-determined hourly rate. 

Scanning Documents:

Any supporting documentation you would like to keep with your home inventory can be scanned and included in your Home Inventory Package.  Purchase receipts, certificates of authenticity, appraisal records or other documents proving ownership and value of your possessions can be scanned right into your inventory records.

Final Package

Following your on-site inventory we will take the recorded data back to our office, upload the photos, and update our secure business software. We will then create your comprehensive inventory package containing printed Your Personal Property Portfolio, a DVD of videos, CD of digital photos and a Client Information Package.  Any private information that we have on paper will either be shredded or provided to you in your package.


Delivery Day

Once your inventory package is ready, we will call to set up an appointment and personally deliver it to your home.  We'll review the package, which typically takes approximately 15 minutes and collect the final payment.  It typically takes 3 to 5 business days to prepare your final package following the on-site inventory.  We will secure a backup copy for you for added security.

Review

You will have 14 days to review the reports and inform us of any corrections that need to be made.  After this two week period, a small fee will apply to perform any updates to your inventory.   However, we will provide some minor updates for free at our discretion

Annual Updates

Easy to Stay Up-To-Date:  Our annual update service keeps your records current.  We encourage you to revisit your inventory on an annual basis to add or delete items.  This service can be provided for $50 without a site visit.  If you have substantial additions or renovations, a site visit may be required at our hourly rate.

We will provide you with an updated personal property portfolio and CD when your annual update is completed.
